Inspiration from a Small Business Owner

Posted by Johanna Fox on

I became a small business owner over a decade ago. In fact, StitchCraft celebrated its 10th anniversary last year—during a pandemic! Pandemics are only one of the downs and ups to owning a small business. There are many. But I wouldn’t change a thing because it’s how I got to where I am today.

My awesome staff and I have been busy with returning to “normal” in 2021, but also looking at ways we can evolve. Our brick-and-mortar retail location is a happy place for so many. We think we can bring that level of happy place to everyone near and far and have our sights set on more online offerings that complement our current happy place. Stay tuned for more!

For now, I want to reflect and share why I started this small business.

Here are three reasons:

One: A Void

I found there was a void in the quilting community serving South Palm Beach and North Broward counties. I lived in Boca Raton and it seemed the perfect location—right in the middle.

Two: People

I like the people-focused aspect of retail and was interested in doing this full time. Inspiring and helping people is one of my non-craft passions.

Three: Making

Speaking of passions, I am passionate about making and creating and loved the idea of helping others realize their creative visions and be surrounded by creativity all the time. It’s my happy place, too. Well, mine and Cooper’s.

What’s your favorite StitchCraft moment? The friendly staff, finding the perfect fabric, learning about a new craft? Tell us in the comments.

  • I love the store/s and what you’re doing. Sorry I live too far up the road to be able to visit often.
